STEM – Robots
We were learning about robots and new technology. We all had to construct robots in our teams with at least one moving joint. It was great fun.
STEM – Cookery
Ignas brought us in a huge courgette. We thought it would be a great idea to make Courgette Pancake Fritters! Helena got the hard job of grating the courgette. Helena helped all of our groups to cook the fritters, using courgette, flour, salt, sugar and eggs. They were delicious. We drew labelled diagrams afterwards to explain what we did.
PE – Cross Country
We were working on the Athletics module during September and October. We concentrated on running skills in September as we were competing in the Co Roscommon Cross Country Competition. We began building up our stamina and laps early in the month. Everyone showed improvement in their fitness. 6 boys and 6 girls qualified in 3rd and 4th. We were delighted to represent our school at the Roscommon Race Course. We had a great day in the lovely sunshine. We were delighted that two of our team – Colm Dennigan and Tadhg Lohan qualified for the Connacht Finals, which take place in Tuam on October 11th. Good luck to them.
SESE – History
In history we were studying the local environment. We concentrated on Roscommon Castle. We learned a little about the history of the castle and its structure. We were very interested in this topic and hope to visit the site later on in October and learn more from local historian, Jim Ganly. We had to construct castles from lego in our station groups including such features as bastion towers, arrow slit loops, murder hole, drawbridge, the moat, and an inner quadrangle area.
