We are currently participating in The Artist in School Scheme which is funded by Roscommon County Council. This programme funds an artist to work with one class for 15 hours over a term. We are working with Annemarie O’Sullivan an actor from Enchanted Croí Theatre who is working with us on voice projection, vocal skills, acting, singing and developing self-confidence. At the moment we are writing our own scripts which we will perform at the end of our ten week block. Our photos show the pupils acting out the fight scene from Macbeth.
Making St. Brigid’s crosses is a long standing tradition here in Scoil Bhríde. The pupils gather the reeds in mid-January and bring them into school to allow them dry out. On St. Brigid’s Eve the crosses are made. While some pupils found it a little difficult initially, by the end of the lesson each pupil had made at least one cross. The crosses were brought to the church where Deacon Seamus blessed them on St. Brigid’s day. They were then distributed to the church congregation. All the pupils enjoyed making the crosses finding it relaxing and rewarding. They were also delighted to keep up this old tradition.
