Here at Scoil Bhríde we value an holistic approach to education and understand the importance of children developing life skills on their educational journey.
Being in the fortunate position to have a fully equipped kitchen we use every opportunity to integrate cooking into the curriculum, allowing the children to put theory into practice – Maths (measures – weight and capacity); Science (materials and change); Language (procedural/instructional genre) as well as affording lots of opportunities for discussion and conversation (Oral Language).
Both cooking and baking are done to celebrate various festivals throughout the year eg Christmas Cakes to celebrate the festive season and pancakes for Pancake Tuesday.
In our quest to gain our ‘Blue Flag’ children prepared dishes from various European countries and shared them with the whole school community on ‘Europe Day’.
